The London taxi is one of the few purpose-built taxis in the world, the iconic design is now two decades old and was in need of modernisation. Inclusive-focused research studio, Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design brought me in to support on the interior design study of what could be the future taxi for London.
The project involved a close collaboration with in-house design researchers to develop an inclusive design that focuses on five key areas 1) Flexible and comfortable passenger environment 2) Highly functional and comfortable driver area; 3) Iconic look for both drivers and tourists 4) Driver-to-passenger interface; and 5) Accessible, wheelchair-friendly ingress and egress.
